A graduate of McGill University, Sarah is an opera singer turned musical theatre actress in Montreal. Recently she appeared as Audrey in the Cote Saint-Luc Dramatic Society's production of Little Shop of Horrors. Previously she has portrayed Magenta in The Rocky Horror Show (Mainline Theatre), Paulette in Legally Blonde (WISTA) and has been a part of a number of workshops and fundraisers around Montreal.

Are you originally from Montreal?

I am originally from Montreal! Although we lived off the island in Vaudreuil, I always attended school in various areas of Montréal! And I love it and I never want to leave!

Who is your favorite composer and why?

My favourite classical composer is Satie. Probably because he was a quirky weirdo who took risks and really blended humour and music in a genre that is pretty rigid.

But really my favourite composer (non classical) is probably Sondheim. His music is so rhythmically interesting and yet composed very simply. He plays with syncopation to a nearly confusing point but I love it. Not to mention his sense of motivic unity within a score. Bringing back themes and motives in different, subtle ways that almost go unnoticed.

Do you have any strange or funny performance stories?

Can't think of a funny story right now! Except maybe when I rotated a vertebrae in my neck and had to do an entire show without moving my head!

How did you wind up singing, and choosing it as a career path?

I wound up singing because after years of choir I took a break. But one day before cegep I decided to try private voice lessons. Within a year my teacher said she had nothing more to teach me so she referred me to her teacher who told me I had potential to be a real singer. I gave up all my dreams of being a doctor and pursued singing and music. And I've never regretted it. It was what I was meant to do.

Come check out our fabulously talented narrator Sarah in Verisimo's production of Stravinsky's L'Histoire du Soldat on August 29th at 8pm at La Sala Rossa ( 4848 Boulevard Saint-Laurent). Tickets available at the door or  online at the link below! (And buying them in advance saves you 10%)
